Wife has inherited (but not yet received) her dad's '48 Matchless 500 single. Bike was very nice the last time we saw it, but is not all original. Also hasn't been run in 25 years. This is our first Matchless. Would love to hear from anyone with photos, manuals, info, or sources that will help us identify this bike and what might be non-original or missing on it. If we decide to sell it, we'll let you know first. If we keep it, we'll probably join AJSMOC.

I am glad to find so many other AJS/Matchless owners because my own 1954 G80 S made a lot of trouble. It took me a lot of money and time to convert this bike from a chopped desaster to an originally looking motorcycle, but i have still some problems about electrics and ignition. Next summer i hope, i will be on the road again, to make these beautifull sounds again!

Nice to see so many fellow AJS/Matchless fans. My project is nearing completion. It is slightly behind the planned riding date of Spring 1995. I am interested in any experiences you have had with conversion to modern ignition systems.

At one time or another I have broken down in almost every county of the UK while touring on AMC Machinery. I used to live at Plumstead. Due to move 10 years ago I ended up selling all 7 AMC machines however I have some small spares left, and only a few of them. Speedos and Cables so if anybody wants to make a small purchase then E-mail me There is nothing, repeat nothing that can turn my head faster than hearing a large single under load. if you still have one then ride up the hill at Lincoln, the echoes are great. Nice site!, Since I am about to have a look into the "internals" of my 1951 G80S, thought I would ask if anyone can recommend a relaible location for good quality motor bits? (piston, rings, valves, etc.) May also need some gearbox bits as well. I have really enjoyed my Matchless over the last 9 years and now realize it does need some TLC. Thanks for any help offered. Regards, Richard

1957 G3LS. This is the best bike I've ever had. So reliable, comfortable, economical, fast enough and beautiful! 12V conversion works fine on 6v dynamo with solid state regulator and LED voltage state indicator. Everything else standard except Hepolite heplex piston and hardened (unleaded fuel) valve seats. The photographs are excellent on the web! I beleive the Newbury section now meet at the Star, East Illesley (which is North of Swindon off the A34)

Hello everyone, i'm new to the net but not to AMC! Have been involved mainly with BSA twins and Norton singles in the past, and still have several of those. current restoration projects are a '57 AJS 16MS and a '54 Matchless G80. I'm only the second owner of the Ajay and will be restoring close to standard spec. The Matchless came from an old friend who bought it years ago for the OHC AJS R10 engine fitted in it. That has been restored to its original chassis and I intend to fit a later alternator G80 motor and AMC 'box to this bike. if anyone wants to get in touch or requires technical assisitance I'll look forward to hearing from you!

Last november I bought a Matchless motorcycle for restoring in US$75. I don't know the year but I found in the motor the following numbers: G-12167 & G2-11776. Somebody knows the year? the model? Also I wish to find manuals, catalog and stores with parts for this motorcycle. Thank you for your help.

Have Matchless MX2 V-twin in 1934 Morgan 3-wheeler. Anyone know why and how this engine (OHV pushrod) was designed to run with zero tappet clearance. If it can be done for this engine, why do we have to put up with tappet clatter on others?
