Hi Tech and low tech come nicely together on your page. I have finally just got my 1956 G9 running afetr 2 years. It makes a big change from the '67 G3. What we need on this page is a pictue of different parts. I have had no end of problems with the 56 twin. It arrived in one piece though much of of wasn't original.. If I could have seen what the mudguards, no. plates and seat looked like I may not have made some of the mistakes I have. Many thanks for this site.

Good to see the interest in these bikes. I have a 53 AJS 500 thats been sitting in my garage for 20 years. It doesn't look like I'll ever get around to using it. I'd like to sell it to someone who could enjoy a classic. Barry

Thanks for a great site. In 55 years of riding, have met many fine people but none equal those in AJSMOC. I am needing a speedo cable (full assy.); a full wiring harness; a headlamp switch, and a primary drive housing rubber gasket for a 1954 18S AJS. HELP. Phone 601 875-4858

Used to race Matchless ('53) scrambler I converted into a road racer in Canada from '56-58. Am looking for a similar bike, or something sort of exotic that I can afford. I'm retired now, so just keeping the Porsche cab running takes a lot of effort. Also raced BMW's, Triumph TR5R's, AJS7R and Norton Double Knocker Shortstrokes.

My first motorcycle was a Matchless G80CS (1953). I bought it in a box in 1964 and put it back together and got it running. I had it while in high school through 1966. I loved it. It was loud and my neighbor hated it. Nobody but me could kick-start it. All others had to bump start it with assistance. Thanks for the great pictures!! When I look at that G80CS picture, I can smell the Castrol R-Racing oil I used to use once again.

What a great memory jogger! I rode 500cc and 650cc Matchless bikes in the early 70's. A frien & I became real pains in the local dealers' collective butts trying to maintain our "A WHAT??" for many years. Great to see they are still around and still being ridden. I would really like to find a full color graphic of the Matchless flying M emblem. Great site... keep it going

Nice sight. I am currently researching the history and motorcycle culture in the US. I am looking for advertisements of motorcycles and non motorcycles ( fashion, ciggaretts, liquor etc) that have pictures of cycles or relted items < jackets , helmets etc. to get photots of. I'd apprecite hearing from anyone that might allow me to photograph items. If you've got any interesting thoughts, or memories of events that would be helpfull as well. Thanks ... Tim

It's great to read otherfolks Other comments and thoughts about their old bikes. I am lucky to live in New Hope PA and we have many old British bikes around. Across the Delaware is a quintessential old BSA dealer. George Parsons who is over 70, is a delight to talk to and has many old British parts in his showroom, in his basement, in his back yard and probably in his closet. I now have a 72 500cc Daytona but my true love is the 500cc scrambler that AJS made in the late 50's, that Jeff Smith used to win Trials. It was the most incredible bike I ever rode and I hope to find one again some day. ray@ivr.net

I just bought a 1961 600cc Matchless Typhoon. I would like to know of any other people who have this make of bike and any information on it. I am in process of restoring it and need any help I can find. Specifically I would like to know what was done to "build" the engine for more power. I alo have a 1958 Lauterbach 150 ci hydroplane. Its a wooden beauty that uses an inboard V8-60 ford flathead (1940) set-up to run on alchol. Anyone less got a similar boat? I'm always interested in saving these old toys! I recently purchased a '58 Matchless G12 basketcase that came with an extra bottom end from a '57 G11 along with other assorted bits. It appears as if the G12 motor did the old "valve-thru-the-piston" trick and someone fitted the top end of the G11 to the G12 case. So if anyone out there has good used G12 (650cc) parts or sources on new parts. I am in need of G12 heads, Rocker assemblies, Pistons/Rings, Valves, and Intake manifold.

In 1964-1966 I owned a 1953 AJS 350 while living in Geneva, Switzerland. Needless to say, not too many people were familiar with such a bike. I was young (15-16) and foolish, and bobbed the front and rear fender to make it look a little newer. Solid black with a red tank, this converted sidecar bike weighed a ton! But was it stout! I was too young to ride it legally, so I just used it in the dirt. I loved the rear wheel speedometer. I also nearly killed myself riding a Honda after moving back to the States. Being used to 'bang shifting' the AJ, with its 1 up 3 down shift pattern on the right, I stomped the Honda into second gear with the right mounted lever, only to be reminded that was the brake on the newer backwards bikes. Such fun!

My diary says that it was 30 years ago this May that I bought a Matchless 266 to travel through Ireland, France and Benelux during Michelmas Term break while attending Eastbourne College in Sussex. A Valve chipped just outside of Paris, but there are much worse place to wait for a parts delivery! Post break the motorcylce was sold at a profit and overall provided memories that remain vivid after 3 full decades. Best of Luck with this Home Page!

Have this darn old 1958 Matchless G11CS looking for loving home and care. "I'm a 600cc vertical twin that was previously owned by a minister and was snatched away by a mean spirited middle aged man that ran out of time for me. I'm complete with owners manual and tool kit and this blok won't even look for the one nut that seems to have rattled off of my seat. PLEASE release me, he only wants $3500.00 U.S. dollars to set me free. I haven't run since 1994 but I know I have spark and compression and can't wait to get my odometer up over 8500 miles."

Thanks to the Club Newsletter, I finally got online. Good photo of the 67 G80CS. Bought one in '77 in perfect stock condition for $1500--"You can ride it to Mexico City and back", the seller said. Big end went out 6 months later-- a daily rider. A totally perfect bike, nonetheless, the bike I compare all others against.

I now ride Goldwings and other Honda's but it was my first bike that was my first love. Wish I had "him" back. 1958 - 350 single, trials machine. I understand that it was one of only 3 that were imported into Canada that year. I loved it because of the power, sound and the indistructability. Many years of fun were had. Sold it for $400.00 and wish I had just kept it some place. Hindsight is always so clear.

I'm the proud owner of a 1960 Matchless G-12, purchased as second owner in 1963. Other than a complete repaint the bike is virtually original.

Nice page, I race a model 14 (250 l/weight) in classic road races around the welsh and northern circuits in great britain. The bike is somewhat modified internally, crank, rod, gears, cam, etc. It goes very well, we have a classic bears class for 4 stroke 250 singles, so its all good fun.
