I'm restoring an AJS 18CS 1953. After 12 years there are still tings to be done. Can anyone tell where to find a decent rear muguard? It should have a rather flat, circular (a radius of 3"") cross-section. It should also align to the fixing points.

I am trying to put together a database of all pre war & WD AJS and Matchless motorcycles. If you own one of these bikes I would be grateful if you would send me details of the frame, engine and gearbox numbers & registration. I am thinking of starting a pre war world wide section so that I can put people in contact with each other. If you think this is a good idea let me know. Safe riding John Tinley

I still own a 1949 AJS model 18S which I bought from a friend in 1969. He needed some money to keep up his Ariel Square Fours and a 1947? Norton ES2 which he had at the time. Another one of our buddies rode a 1946 AJS model 18 which he bought when it was about a year old. I have moved many times since then but I still have the Ajay. It is a great old machine and I have never had any real problems with her. I have been completely through the machine since I bought her many years ago.

Hi there We have a rather famous rally here in South Africa known as the D-J commerative rally. The rally is held in commereration of the great Diurban to Johannesburg race that was held between 1910 and 1936. This was a world famous race at the time, and always attrated top entrants. In 1936, a fellow by the name of Cran Jarman rode a 1926 AJS 350cc to victory. The victory was so remarkable because he was racing against Manx Nortons at the time, and it still a secret today as to what Jarman did to his AJS to make it so fast. He managed to complete the course in just under 7 hours, which meant he avergaed around 100 kmh, truly remarkeable when one considers there were no tarred roads at the time. I am interested to know if anyone has any information about the bike that he rode, about the man himslef or if anyone has heard of the race/rally. yours in biking Andrew Lewis

Very interesting reading your various contributions. My first time on the net. I am in need of some serious help regarding my 1928 straight four. Although an AJS the manufacturer deemed it an AJ Stephens until production fully commenced. It didnt and only five where made. My model can be found detailed in the Motorcycle News dated 5th January 1950 on page 13. Unlucky number maybe but this machine has an interesting history. Anyone who has any information on this machine please contact me in the UK.

I'm new on the net. I enjoy your site, but not real good at moving in it. I resently bought a 1965 CSR G12 matchless. The bike is in pristine condition, the odometer reads 288 miles. It appears to have been repainted many times, origanally light blue, then gold, then red. Looking thru your gallery I can't find a bike like it. The engine NO# is G-12 CSRx 10695, I also got two engines and trannies, with the bike, a 61 G12, and a G-15 year unknown niether say CSR on engine, these two engines are in dissembled condition with no heads. I would like to put a picture in your gallery if I can figure out how. I would also like any info on this model of bike, I can't seem to find any model that matches this style. Thant you for your time.
