I have a 1961 Matchless 150cc (Papoose) motor scooter. I am the original owner and bought it new. It has less than 3,600 original miles on it and is all stock, except for a recovered seat. I even have the original owner's and parts manuals. I'm moving out of the country and would like help in determining a value for it. I have pictures available to email. Thanks for your help and this site's existence in the first place!!

In the early 1960s I owned an AJS. It was a single and I remember it as a 1953 350cc but I can't find any reference to such a bike. It had a full length seat. Perhaps a 500?
It fried it's magneto and I couldn't find a replacement so I sold it to a guy who took it to a junkyard wizard who sawed the shaft off the AJS magneto and welded it to a BSA head. It worked.
I currently ride a 2002 Triumph Sprint RS

I am a member of a Historical Club in QLD. Aust.
I live on the other side of the ball, just bought a 51 Matchles 500 single.
I have not been involved in cycles since my early 20's.
I am amazed at the amount of parts that are available, owing to the net, providing that the right question is asked and you look long enough.
Just fishing to see if there is a contact to exchange/source bits and not just the above.

Enjoyed this website tonight. I have a 1958 AJS 500cc GS80 single. In 1966at age 19 I bought it to Hill climb and Trail ride. I came across your site while looking for photos of a fully restored version of my bike. This AJS and I have had lots of adventures over the years. It is still in reasonably good running condition although mostly decorating my garage since 1985. It has amazing low end torque and that big single sound which I have always loved.

HI Folks, I built a G80CS for Flat Track racing a few years ago. One of my mistakes was the purchase of a piston that would'nt fit. I put it in a drawer and forgot about until today. It was one of those short stroke/long stroke deals. It's never been in a motor, has the part number 023670, 57-59CS, 11.9:1, and .040 over written on the crown. The rings are there, as is the pin and circlips. I can't remember what I paid for it but there can't be to many around. Anybody interested? No reasonable offer refused. Thanks, Bill Powers

Just aquired a 1948 Matchless 500CS. Because it is a comp model, it didn't originally have an electrical system (lamps, etc). I'm trying to get it street legal and as such am in the process of wiring up a battery, generator and the lamps. Anyone with advice or tips on wiring a comp bike, please share.

Matilda, a 1947 matchless G3L, is alive again. Since my last entry I
cleaned up the clutch disks that had rusted together over the years,
and a laundry list of lesser repairs. She rides out great! Dad tuned
the heartbeat down to 60 per minute. I have submitted my dues to
AJSMOC and will be looking for parts soon. Loving life's simple

Enjoyed the site. Have a 54 Matchless G9 needing restoration. It is very rough, but in central B.C. we take what we can find. Due to climate and road conditions back then, there are very few old bikes found here. Would love to hear from anyone having a source for a set of pistons and exhaust . Keep up the great work!

Hello - can any one help please. I have a Matchless G15 registerered in England. I will be moving to live and work in US for a few years and want to bring my bike with me. US customs say that it has to meet local emissions regulations, etc. Is it possible to get it registered for use in US and how do I go about it? The bike was originally registered in US in 1966 and exported back to England a couple of years ago.

I recently sold a 1938 Ariel Four and a 47 BSA A7 and converted the proceeds into a 1934 Matchless Model X V-twin. The bike is very original, and runs very well. I've done little to it but overhaul the generator (original three-brush with cut-out), tidy up the wiring, and powder coat a few bits and pieces. Anyone out there know of any manuals, parts books etc. for this bike?
Are there any other owners in the U.S. and Canada? I'd love to hear from you.

Great website. I have just purchased from a Victoria BC dealer a 1964 AJS 500 single he brought in from South Aftrica. Haven't ridden it, have just seen it. It is in a box to my Ontario workshop now. I'll keep you posted on how good a deal

I just recently inherited a 1958 twin cylinder Matchless. I know nothing about it other than it is in mint condition, perfect working order and it has less than 1000 miles on it. I'm looking for someone that may have some insight to the model type and any more information on the bike I might be able to get.
Thanks,
Tyler
